BEAR HUNT
Archery or Gun black bear hunts are
available at Horwood Lake Lodge. We pride
ourselves on our high success rate and feel it
is do to both our regimented baiting patterns
starting in the spring and continuing through
the fall and our management of the resource,
taking a limited number of hunters each season
allowing our population to increase each year.
After checking in and obtaining your
hunting license, our guide will give you a
detailed orientation to our area and to the
hunt. Together you will choose a bait, go over
the "what if?" scenarios and hunting
regulations, then take you to your stand and
help you get set up.
You hunt from your own tree stands over an
active bait. Most baits are within 20 minutes
from the Lodge, so you don't have to spend hours
traveling to and from your stand each day. We
have several baits accessible by 2 wheel drive
vehicles and some baits accessible by ATV only,
so if you have an ATV, you are welcome to bring
it.
When it is time to hunt you follow our
guide to the bait. The guide will look after the
bait as we do not want you to add any extra
scent or change our feeding habits because this
could shut the bait down. After your success we
are happy to assist you in retrieval and
transportation back to the Lodge's big game
preparation area where you can "dress-out" your
bear or for a nominal fee have your guide
process and package your kill.

Our prices do not include the cost of your
hunting license. Licenses will be issued at time
of arrival. Deposits for hunting packages are
non-refundable.
It is not uncommon to have wolves visit a
bear bait. A small game license may be purchased
in advance if you may want to take a wolf.
Taxidermy services are also available at
competitive rates.
