Black Bear Bow Hunt Details |
|

Set Up ...
We begin building stands, clearing trails and scouting new area at the first signs of Spring.
Test baiting is very important to determine bear population in certain areas, and it’s not unusual for us
to have 25 test baits going in the Spring. We then choose the most active areas and set up our
baiting station and hunting stands. This determines that you, our Hunting Guest will be assured
to be assigned a bait this is 100% active.
Our stands are set up with Bow Hunters in mind.
Baits are placed at approximately 20 yards with new, solid wooden ladder stands
built for your security and comfort.

We do our best when selecting set up areas to choose a quiet, stable environment in order
to give you the best success rate for your hunt. Also so that you may the seclusion and
"one on one" experience with nature in all aspects.
We do suggest that you bring your ATV due to some hunting areas not being reachable by a regular truck.
Procedure ...
After arriving at Horwood Lake Lodge, you will get settled into your Cabin and begin to relax after your long ride.
You will attend our mandatory Hunter Orientation Meeting in our Dining Room after dinner on Saturday evening.
At the meeting you will be introduced to your Hosts, Staff and your Outfitter & Guide.
We will then go over the details of your hunt - the "do's and don'ts", and follow up with doing licensing
and paperwork. You will be assigned a great boat and motor package, so with your hunt beginning
Sunday afternoon, you can get to some great fishing Sunday morning !
We also suggest that you use our target area to assure that your
bow's sights didn't get bumped during transportation.
The hunt procedure is as follows ...
You will be Guided directly to your stand the first day of the hunt. Your Guide will walk in with you,
assist you into your stand, bait your station and leave. He will then carry on down his baiting route
to assist the other hunters in your group in getting into their stands. On the next day and from then on,
you will be expected to be settled into your stand about a half hour before you Guide will arrive to bait.
When you have an animal down, you will return to camp and inform your Guide.
Guides ...
With your Bear Hunt, your Guide is included.
He will orientate you to the area and be your personal friend in the wilderness for the week !
He will give you instructions as to hunt times, procedures and rules and regulations.
Please listen to your Guide and understand that he is a professional in his field and will do everything
in his control to ensure your successful hunt.
Guides, Owners and Staff will assist you in tracking, retrieval, and processing your trophy.
With being hunters by nature, we all strive for the ultimate thrill of taking a trophy animal ...
but also remember, our sport is referred to as "hunting" ... not "shooting" !
Following our suggestions will result in a 95% chance of your personal success !

Cow Moose Bow Hunt Details |
Set Up ...
Normally, Moose travel and live in the same areas year to year, unless they are driven out by predators or man.
With that in mind, we must be completely versatile and change our set up from year to year.
Thus, we have to scout for Moose activity most of the Spring and Summer in order to locate active movement.
Once numerous areas of activity are located, we choose set up areas for our Archery Hunt in the Fall.
A couple week before the hunt begins, we study the areas intensely to determine the more active areas
to start hunting. We then clear shooting lanes and mark trails for our use to access the spot quietly.

any time you're not hunting. We also suggest that you use our target area to assure that your
bow's sights didn't get bumped during transportation.
The hunt procedure is not elaborate, it's quite like any other. Hunters quietly get set up in their
chosen spot twice daily - early morning and afternoon.
They then attempt to eliminate all human scent and movement - and being sure to set up down wind
from where the Moose is expected to enter into the area. Calling begins before daylight ...
and let the heart pounding excitement begin ! When you have an animal down, you will return to camp
and inform the Guides and Staff if you require assistance.
